Open House Power Point

For the past couple years I have had a Power Point run on the tv screen in my classroom during Open House with information about my class.  I found another one online and edited it to fit my needs.  I am posting it in case someone else wants to use it.

Dinosaur Project

Earlier I posted pictures of our dinosaur party.  Here are a few of the documents I created to go with this unit.  Two of them are the information about the dinosaur project students had to make and the rubric I used to grade the project.  We worked on this unit about five - six weeks and students really enjoyed it! The project was due at the end of the unit and it is also when we had our celebration, pictures posted earlier of dino activity.

Center Time

I have been doing centers with my students for eighteen of my twenty years of teaching.  Throughout this time I have attended workshops, researched, masters topic and created lots of materials for centers.  I think every year I learn something new to add to my learning centers to make them better and more beneficial for my students. Below are a couple of things I created to use during Center Time in my classroom.

Centers planning form- centers are set up by colors

I cut these in half and put one in tub pocket to keep track of who goes to which center.
I write the date bottom of slip and write activity name on the side of slip, line on side.

Dinosaurs Activity

I do a big dinosaur unit, 5 weeks, with my second graders and they love it! To conclude the unit we have a celebration, party, and go "digging for dinosaurs."
That morning we make Dirt Pudding and bury dino fruit snacks. Then we put it in frig till the party in the afternoon.
For the party we only have what meat and plant eating dinos would eat. So we set up a salad bar and I put either cocktail sausages or meatballs in my crockpot. I cook them in back of my room for about an hour or two before we start the party.
To conclude our party,do after we eat, they go "digging for dinosaurs" with dino eggs I get from Dollar Store. By the way, you can shop the Dollar Store online.
Anyway, the eggs have different dino skeleton bones buried inside. Student pretend paleontologist and use their tools, comes in each egg package, to chisel away at their egg. Each student gets a package that has name of dino they are searching for, plastic chisel and brush, and stand put dino on when complete. Below are a fee pictures of this activity.

Blogging

I just set up this blog a few days ago and I want to post some documents I have made.  I am having trouble posting them though.  I saved it in Google Docs, but it only lets me attach a link.  I have seen on other blogs that you can see a picture of the document posted on the page and then you click it.
Can anyone help me by telling me the steps to to post a document that shows a picture of it in the blog?
Thanks

Composition Notebooks

This is the time of year I start looking for good deals on composition notebooks at Staples, Walmart, etc. I use them for a variety of things in my classroom for students and myself.  Here is a list of ways I use composition notebooks;
1. Science Notebooks- try to buy the notebooks in blue or green
2. Interactive Notebooks- work in variety of subjects, students take notes or glue things I give them on the right side of page.  They show me what they know or have learned on the left side, the creative side of brain.  They have to use pictures, Thinking Maps, color, graphic organizers, etc to show me.
3. Teacher Notes/Thoughts- I decorate the front of a composition notebook with my name, label, and use it to take notes during grade level, write down groups I have made in my classroom, keep lists of things to do, new ideas want to do, etc.  I also glue a orange envelope, report card size, on the back cover. I put any important handouts or copies of things I want to save.
4. Writers Workshop- students decorate the cover with pictures from home then I give them a ziploc baggie to keep it inside of in their desk.
5. Morning Work/Center Work- students write any morning work in their notebook; todays number, math problems, etc.  Sometimes they may need to write something in it during Center Time instead of me having to make a worksheet.
